Guest Post : Top 10 Fashion Picks For Spring/Summer

Mainly being a beauty blogger, it’s only recent that I’ve delved into the world of fashion. After spending the majority of my teenage years in anything comfortable and baggy, I’m slowly but surely expanding my wardrobe and making just that little bit more effort, even if it is still ensuring comfort comes first. As the seasons change, my jumpers are making their way back to the back of my wardrobe as my dresses are edging their way ever so much closer to the front. Here are my personal top 10 fashion picks for Spring/Summer 2016!

Skater Dresses
Skater dresses are a personal favourite of mine, not only do they compliment my triangular body shape magnificently, they’re perfect for any day and any time of year. Sunny Spring yet still a little chilly? Match it with a thick cardigan and knee high boots for during the day, or wear it with a duster coat and some eye-catching accessories for the evenings. They’re also perfect for Summer, keeping you cool and comfortable! The massive range of colours available means there’s also something for everyone.

High Waisted Jeans
Jeans come in so many different varieties nowadays, and jeans are also perfect for anytime of year. But the reason why I chose high waisted is because they’re perfect with a crop top for Summer or paired with a simple tee/blouse for Spring. If you’re from the UK you’ll know our weather is particularly bipolar, so jeans will keep you warm in the chilly breeze. I know this won’t be everyone's cup of tea, but for Spring inparticular, high waist jeans are a personal must!

A-line Skirts
I’m not usually one for skirts, unless they’re skater skirts. But just recently I seem to be picking skirts up without realising. One of my current favourite styles of skirt is the A-Line skirt, these skirts were more popular during Autumn 2015 but with Spring making an entrance, denim blue A-Line skirts are perfect, and you can literally pair them with anything. Tights, boots, trainers, blouse, literally anything you feel like! It’s all about that comfort.

Bomber Jackets
I’m a recent convert to bomber jackets. I’ve literally always lived in my leather jacket or my parka, but as you can imagine, come Spring/Summer I’m literally melting away. Instead of suffering in silence I was recommended a bomber jacket, at first I wasn’t keen on the idea, but as soon as New Look had some in the sale I thought I’d pick one up. Well, not only do they look great on with anything, say a pinafore, jeans, literally anything, they keep you warm, but the thin material also keeps you cool on hot summery days.

Pinafore Dresses
Don’t get me started on pinafores. Ever since I tried on my first pinafore last year I was in love. These versatile fashion pieces are a must in everyone’s wardrobe. Perfect for anytime of year depending on what you pair it with. I literally live in my pinafores. You can wear any type of top underneath, my personal favourites are long sleeved tops or turtlenecks. Pinafores will literally go great with any shoes, jackets, anything making it not only perfect for Spring, but all year round.

Mom Shorts
Being someone who has literally spent the majority of their life in either a skater dress, leggings or skinny jeans, I never thought shorts would be in my top 10 fashion picks. Especially Mom shorts. We’ve all seen the gorgeous Mom jeans, those baggy high waist jeans that are the ‘in thing’ right now, unfortunately I could never pull them off, but last year I found some Mom shorts, and they’re absolutely perfect. They’re baggy, so they’re breezy for Summer, but they’re also extremely comfortable, you don’t need to keep pulling them down to avoid any cheeky bum flashes. They go well with tights or without, and I think they’re the only shorts I’ve actually loved so much that I probably have about 5 pairs now. Definitely perfect for Summer!

Long Sleeved Crop Tops
Another item of clothing I never thought I would love until just recently are crop tops. Not just any crop tops, particularly long sleeved ones. They’re perfect for all year round, Autumn? Match one with a pair of high waisted jeans. Spring? Match one with a skirt and tights. Summer? Match one with a pair of shorts. Don’t want to show any tummy? You can get pretty much high waisted everything now. The great choice of colours and styles also make them very versatile. They’re comfortable. Perfect for any season, and easy to accessorize depending on the occasion.

Knitted Cardigans
Not just any cardigans, knitted ones. You know those jumpers your grandma would make you and you’d smile, nod and throw it to the back of your wardrobe hoping she would never notice that you’ve never warn it? Yep, those ones. I don’t know why, I just think they’re pretty. As a fan of anything vintage, these kind of cardigans have a certain appeal to me. My favourite are my vans grey one or my mustard yellow one. Some of you may cringe at the thought, but these are just so comfortable, not too warm and again, depending on what you pair them with, perfect for any season. I especially love these for Spring, as the Sun may be out, but the breeze is making a stand, and they’re perfect for keeping you warm but also won’t make you melt away while the Sun’s out.

Kimonos
Come last year, when I was 6 stone heavier, kimonos were my life safer. They allowed me to keep cool in the Summer, and hide all my unwanted lumps and bumps. They were literally a massive staple in my wardrobe. Once I’d lost the 6 stone, I ventured into the world of different styles of jackets, cardigans and coats. But one thing I still went back for were kimonos. I love kimonos, not only are they gorgeous on, come in hundreds of different styles, colours and prints but they’re also quite thin so they keep you cool on extremely hot days. Again, these can be paired with anything, a dress, jeans a skirt. The possibilities are endless!

Vest Tops
I couldn’t write my top 10 fashion picks without a basic, comfy clothing item that I literally would be lost without. The simple vest top. Thin straps or thick, it really doesn’t matter, I love them all. They’re perfect for any time of year, go with anything such as skirts, jeans leggings, underneath jumpers. I wear them for bed in Spring to keep me cool, I wear them in Spring also with jeans to keep me cool but still warm in the British breeze. Come Summer vest tops are perfect with a skater skirt and kimono or an a-line skirt and a cardigan. I literally do not know what I would do without vest tops. Everyone has a vest top somewhere in their wardrobe, and a lot of people will agree with me when I say all of this. They’re comfortable, versatile and can be used for anytime of day, as lounge wear, casual wear, or add a couple of accessories, jeans, boots and a duster coat, and bam!, my perfect evening outfit!

A big thank you to Katie for asking me to write this quest post, but also for giving me a subject that brought me out of my comfort zone! I hope you enjoyed reading!
Much Love!
